The low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced that the Chisinau base will be temporarily closed from December 1, 2023. The reason given by the company was that there were security concerns due to the war in Ukraine. The range of flights will be mainly relocated to Romania.

Just a few weeks ago, Wizz Air Chisinau flights resumed. That will soon be the end of it. “Following a thorough risk assessment and taking into account the risks of closing Moldova's airspace, we have adjusted our Chisinau winter 2022-2023 flight schedule to ensure that flight operations can be maintained. To minimize the overall disruption to our customers in Moldova, from December 1, 2022, we will operate most of our inbound flights to Chisinau from other bases of the Wizz network,” the company announced. On Monday, Moldova's defense ministry said missile debris had landed in the northern village of Naslavcea after the Russian missile was intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses. No one was reportedly injured, but the windows of several houses were broken, the ministry said in a press release.
