The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air likes to take business travelers with them, but that is not the core target group. CEO Jozsef Varadi wants to continue to focus on private travelers.
During the Capa meeting held on Wednesday, the manager explained that Wizz AIr has always stayed true to its roots: The Visit Friends and Relatives traffic. Over the years, routes relevant to tourism have also been added. “The business travel market may at some point be attractive, but it can put a significant strain on the business model. This can come with higher costs and more restrictions. It could even eat up the core model. We see many more opportunities than we have the capacity, so we remain very selective in the opportunities we take advantage of. It is very important that we focus on our core business. We just have to stick to it, ”said Varadi.
According to the Wizz-Air boss, almost the only way to reduce costs further is in fuel consumption. We are currently in the middle of the changeover from Airbus A320 / 321ceo models to the Neo successor models. Some of these also have a higher seating capacity, so that more travelers can be carried per flight.
