The German motorists' club ADAC has taken a closer look at the parking prices at ten German airports. It turned out that travelers are asked to pay a particularly high amount of 5 euros for parking their vehicle in Hamburg's parking garage 561 for two weeks.

As part of the survey, the ADAC also showed alternatives such as traveling by public transport, taxi and using car sharing offers. Unsurprisingly, public transport is the cheapest option in all cases. Car sharing, if available, ranks second.

When taking a taxi, it depends on how far the airport is from the city. For example, Munich is notable for its comparatively extremely high taxi costs. According to ADAC, this is because the distance to be traveled is significantly greater in direct comparison with other German airports. An indirect consequence of this is that shuttles and public transport tickets are more expensive than at other airports in Germany.

At most airports, but not all, there are offers from companies that specialize in car sharing. Depending on the provider, one-way rentals may or may not be possible. Travelers should find out in advance whether the vehicle must be returned at the pickup location or whether this is also possible elsewhere and, if so, whether an additional charge applies. Almost all car sharing companies charge a surcharge for renting at airports, which can sometimes be very steep.

The ADAC has taken a closer look at two variants with regard to parking space prices. On the one hand for a weekend trip and on the other hand for a 14-day vacation. The results are shown graphically in the table below. The motorists' club points out that many airports also have special rates that must be booked online in advance. Depending on the airport, the potential for money savings is between zero and 50 percent.

In general, it is advisable to check various options for arrival and departure before flying. If you absolutely cannot do without your own car or if there is no public transport option due to flight times, you should also consider providers with shuttle services. This way you can definitely save money.
