The Emirates sister company Flydubai was the first international airline to announce that it would be flying to Kabul again in the future. From November 15, 2023, the Afghan capital will be reconnected with Dubai.

In 2021, the armed forces of the USA and its NATO partners said goodbye to Afghanistan in a truly chaotic manner. This enabled the Taliban to take power within a few days without significant resistance. Many people wanted to flee the country because they were extremely afraid of reprisals. Most of the evacuation flights were carried out by military forces.

Only a few carriers currently fly to airports in Afghanistan. Flydubai is now the first major carrier to announce its comeback. Effective November 15, 2023, the plan is to commute between the capitals Kabul and Dubai up to twice a day again. As a rule, medium-haul jets such as the Boeing 737-800 should be used.

At the moment the flight offering from Kabul is very limited. Many carriers are still cautious because of security concerns. The Afghan consulate in Dubai announced, among other things, that it is hoped that other carriers will gradually follow Flydubai. This would be particularly important for Afghanistan's connectivity and recovery.
