Following the immediate termination of the wet lease agreement with Greek Marathon Airlines, Air Serbia has sought a replacement for Embraer regional jets.

Bulgaria Air has been flying from Belgrade with an Embraer 190 on behalf of Air Serbia for a few days now. The regional airliner used has the registration LZ-PLO and, according to Bulgaria Air, will be in use for the Serbian air carrier until at least September 30, 2024 as part of a wet lease agreement. Furthermore, an option to extend the cooperation would have been agreed.

Marathon Airlines should actually have flown for Air Serbia with five Embraer E-series aircraft in the 2024 summer flight schedule. But it was a few weeks ago There was an accident at Belgrade Airport. Luckily this went smoothly, but... the first interim report from the Serbian aircraft accident investigators did not shed a good light on the decisions of the Greek airline pilots. Air Serbia reacted promptly and terminated its cooperation with Marathon Airlines without notice. The Greeks found at least part of the volume already has a new client in Africa.

Air Serbia says it wants to use more Embraer jets for its own operations. We are currently looking for flying personnel. The company currently assumes that two Embraer 195s will be put into service on July 1, 2024. However, they are still open to wet leasing additional E-series aircraft. The carrier did not want to comment on questions about which operator they might come from. There aren't particularly many candidates in Europe who don't have any orders in the 2024 summer flight schedule anyway.

In the 2024 summer flight schedule, Air Serbia has a comparatively large number of wet lease aircraft in use from various operators. For example, Klasjet and Getjet Airlines operate for the Serbian carrier. They also want to further increase their own fleet before the main season. For example, the ATR72-600 sub-fleet, which currently consists of seven units, is to be increased to ten machines.
