A few days ago there was a death on an Azul flight from Fort Lauderdale to Belo Horizonte. The crew continued the medium-haul flight and the deceased woman was only removed from her seat after landing at the destination.
On November 6, 2023, Azul was en route from Fort Lauderdale to Belo Horizonte with the Airbus A330neo, registered PR-AIW, flight number AD8733. The flight time is approximately seven hours and 45 minutes. At an unspecified location, a female business class passenger suffered a medical emergency.
The cabin crew called for a doctor. There was actually someone on board who immediately initiated medical measures. Any help came too late for the woman, as she is said to have died a few moments later. According to the airline, the doctor confirmed that she died of natural causes. The crew decided against a stopover and continued the journey to Belo Horizonte.
The deceased was also not removed from her seat. Only after landing at the destination, after all the passengers had gotten off, an undertaker under police supervision is said to have lifted the deceased out of her seat and taken her off board in a coffin.
What is noteworthy, however, is the fact that the PR-AIW was back in service with passengers immediately afterwards and was only minimally late. Incidentally, Azul did not answer the question as to whether the affected seat was cleaned or locked.
