In July 2023, a mishap occurred on board a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt am Main to Budapest: a 19-year-old ordered a coffee that was accidentally spilled on the right side of his lower body by the flight attendant while it was being served. The carrier is now offering the young Canadian compensation of $500. But that's not enough for him.
The person concerned makes serious allegations against Lufthansa cabin crew in the Canadian media. The flight attendant only apologized briefly, but then continued the on-board sale without taking any further action. This meant that the young man would not have been able to go to the washroom immediately because the corridor was blocked by the trolley.
According to his own statements, the passenger suffered second degree burns as a result of the mishap and was treated in a Hungarian hospital. During his stay in Budapest, the injuries would have largely healed, so that he could then begin the return journey.
CTV News reports that he and his mother conducted extensive correspondence with Lufthansa. As recently as September 15, 2023, Lufthansa customer service denied that this incident had occurred because no corresponding report had been received from the crew. The answer to a query as to whether anyone else remembered it would also be pending.
The person concerned then once again presented the medical documents and invoices that he had received in Hungary. Lufthansa now offered compensation of 500 euros and emphasized that this was the maximum amount that could be offered without submitting certificates and invoices. According to the passenger, the fact that the documents were presented several times anyway was not addressed. In any case, he wants to stick with it and, if necessary, go to court to demand that the treatment costs be covered, plus compensation. In his opinion, customer service might be playing for time.
