The airline Egyptair announced at the Dubai Air Show that it will lease 18 Boeing 737-Max-8s from Air Lease Corporation. The aircraft come from an existing Lessor order.
At the same time, company boss Mohamed Yehia Zakaria announced that the fleet would be expanded to 2028 machines by 125. The route network is to be greatly expanded. The current plan is to travel to around 100 destinations by the year mentioned.
According to Air Lease Corporation, the 18 Boeing 737-Max-8s for which Egyptair recently signed contracts will be handed over to the Egyptian carrier in 2025 and 2026.
“This significant contract with ALC for 18 new Boeing 737-8s demonstrates Egyptair’s commitment to fleet modernization, environmental sustainability and future growth plans. The 737-8 will significantly improve Egyptair's operational efficiency and the flying experience for our passengers well into the future. We are delighted to partner with a pioneering lessor like Air Lease Corporation on this strategic initiative to support Egyptair’s fleet renewal and growth plans,” said Zakaria.
Egyptair's fleet currently consists of 66 aircraft. There are already 27 Boeing 737-800s in operation. However, no Max models have been used yet. That will change from 2025. By 2028, the fleet is expected to increase to 125 machines, almost doubling.
