The Noida International Airport is being built in Jewar, India, and is currently Flughafen Zürich AG's most extensive project. It is now clear who will be the first airline: a declaration of intent was signed with Indigo on Friday, November 24, 2023.
The new airport is initially designed for around 12 million passengers per year and is intended to be the second international airport for the region around New Delhi. The existing Indira Gandhi International Airport should also be significantly relieved. Those responsible are currently assuming that the first phase will be completed towards the end of 2024. Then Terminal 1 and a runway should go into operation. Depending on requirements, additional runways and terminal buildings can be built.
The low-cost airline Indigo confirmed that it signed a letter of intent on November 24, 2023, which will lead to the start of flights from Noida International Airport. The airline mentioned is the first carrier to officially confirm that it intends to add the new airport to its route network. This is being celebrated as a great success by those responsible for the project.
So far it is still completely unclear when it will start. Indigo has not announced the scope or possible flight destinations. There was also no communication about where the premiere flight that was announced would go. There is still a lot of time until the new airport is formally opened.
