Innsbruck: Neighbors complain about the allegedly loud Embraer 175

An Embraer 2023 operated by Marathon Airlines is stationed in Innsbruck for the current 175 summer season. A local initiative is now protesting against this, claiming that the regional jet would be exceptionally loud. An allegedly strong roar and loud whistling are perceived as annoying, especially on weekends.

For years, significantly louder machines were used for the charter program of two tour operators. These were Fokker 100s operated by Avanti Air and Trade Air, among others. Austrian Airlines was also a regular guest in Innsbruck with this type of aircraft until it was phased out. From the point of view of the initiative, the aging regional jets of the former Dutch manufacturer are said to have been quieter than the Embraer 175 that are now being used.

In addition, Austrian Airlines and Air Dolomiti operate Embraer 195 and Embraer 190 flights to/from Innsbruck almost every day. The engines are largely identical to those installed on Marathon Airlines' E175. Hildegard Auer from the neighboring community claimed to the Tiroler Tageszeitung that when the Greek carrier's plane started, loud whistling sounds could be heard beforehand, which would be perceived as disturbing. Also there would be a loud roar.

A few complaints have been received at Innsbruck Airport. Airport manager Marco Pernetta therefore had the aircraft noise measuring points evaluated in detail. He confirmed to the TT that not a single increased value could be determined. It is possible that some people would subjectively perceive certain frequencies as loud. The community of residents disagrees and demands that Innsbruck Airport take further noise protection measures. You feel that your quality of life is impaired and you don’t want to have to “escape” behind noise-protection windows in the summer.
