In October 2023, the Vienna Airport Group had a total of 3.551.738 passengers at its locations in Vienna, Malta and Kosice. Compared to the same month last year, this increased by 15,6 percent. However, the volume was one percent below the volume that the group of companies had in October 2019. 

Vienna-Schwechat Airport accounted for 2.739.441 passengers. In direct comparison with the same month last year, an increase of 12 percent, but 3,8 percent less than in October 2019. The number of local passengers in Vienna rose compared to the previous year to 2.086.995 (+17,1%), the number of transfer passengers fell 2,0% to 644.750. Flight movements increased to 2023 in October 20.524 (+10,3% compared to October 2022). At 21.704 tons, freight is around 18,5% below the pre-crisis level (October 2019). 

The passenger volume at Vienna Airport in October 2023 increased to Western Europe to 961.611 passengers (+13,8% compared to the previous year). A total of 2023 passengers (+217.848%) traveled to Eastern Europe in October 7,4. The airport recorded 41.924 passengers (-5,8%) to North America and 34.608 (+18,9%) to Africa. In October 2023, Vienna Airport recorded a total of 80.284 passengers (+3,9%) to the Near and Middle East and 48.280 travelers to the Far East (+83,2%). 

In October 2023, Malta Airport achieved an increase in passenger traffic to 771.253 passengers (+30,7%) compared to the previous year, which is already 9,6% above the pre-crisis level (2019). Kosice Airport increased its number of passengers to 41.044 (+9,3%), 14,7% higher than the pre-crisis year of 2019. 

For the whole of 2023, Flughafen Wien AG expects 28,5 million passengers to fly at the Austrian airport. As a group of companies, 36,5 million passengers are forecast. However, this assumes that there is no massive expansion of the crisis in the Middle East, according to Flughafen Wien AG. 

Sales increased by 37,7 percent 

In the first nine months, a total of €61,2 million (Q1-3/2022: €38,0 million) was invested in intangible assets, property, plant and equipment and investment properties. The largest investment projects at the Vienna location relate to the southern expansion with €11,5 million, the taxiways with €2,4 million, the adaptation for the exit entry system with €2,2 million, and land with €4,5 million, further photovoltaic systems with €4,3 million and investments for the sorter in Terminal 3 with €1,3 million. A total of €1 million was invested at Malta Airport in Q3-2023/16,8. 

After a strong first half of the year, the recovery in traffic continued in the third quarter. Demand for air travel is back to levels similar to before the pandemic. The number of passengers at Vienna Airport increased by 2023% to 29,1 passengers from January to September 22.495.652 compared to the previous year, reaching 93,9% of the pre-crisis level in 2019. The number of local passengers rose by 32,3% to 17.245.753 Travellers, those of transfer passengers increased by 19,6% to 5.191.128. The seat load factor, i.e. the capacity utilization of the aircraft, has also increased significantly. This rose to 1% in Q3-2023/81,1, an increase of 3,9 percentage points year-on-year and is also 3,6 percentage points above the utilization rate of Q1-3/2019. The upward trend is also clearly visible in FWAG's foreign investments. At Malta Airport, passenger volumes increased by 2022% to 35,6 travelers compared to the same period in 5.973.824, and at Košice Airport by 15,5% to 515.462 passengers. 

In Q1-3/2023, the Flughafen Wien Group achieved sales of €699,4 million, which corresponds to an increase of 37,7%. In particular, the significant increase in passengers and the resulting higher passenger and aircraft-related revenues as well as improved center & hospitality management revenues and parking revenues drove the revenue development. Compared to the previous year, EBITDA increased to €332,2 million and EBIT rose to €234,9 million. The profit for the period before minorities increased to €1 million in Q3-2023/173,3. Cash flow from operating activities increased significantly to €286,1 million (Q1-3/2022: €234,6 million). 

Sales in the Airport segment increased to €1 million compared to the previous year, mainly as a result of the significant increase in passengers in Q3-2023/332,1, and segment EBIT improved to €99,2 million. Sales in the Handling & Security Services segment was driven by the increase in movement and recorded an increase to € 121,6 million, the segment EBIT rose to € 7,3 million. In the Retail & Properties segment, sales increased in Q1-3/2023, primarily due to the number of passengers corresponding shopping, catering and parking revenues to €135,4 million and the segment EBIT improved to €63,9 million. Sales in the Malta segment increased to €1 million in Q3-2023/91,6 Segment EBIT amounted to €48,8 million.
