The Armed Forces of Mexico were to provide the new Mexicana with two Boeing 737-800s and one Boeing 737-300. The plan is to begin flight operations with these aircraft and two wet lease jets this month.
The former airline Mexicana is to be revived under the leadership of the Mexican military. It was actually announced that ten Boeing 1-2023s would be flown from December 737, 800. So far, those responsible have not been able to conclude the necessary leasing and/or purchase agreements. Only an Embraer 145 operated by TAR is available.
The planned first flight was initially postponed to December 26, 2023. It was then announced that this date would not hold either and that it could not start until the second half of 2024 at the earliest. Now politicians want to speed things up and have asked the military to provide three machines.
These are two Boeing 737-800s and one B737-300. However, these still have to be approved and registered by the Civil Aviation Authority, as the affected machines are currently registered with the military. The office confirmed that an examination is currently underway to determine whether these can be approved and used for civil purposes. The regional airline TAR is to operate two Embraer 145 regional jets on behalf of the new Mexicana.
But there is another circumstance that could delay the restart. Mexicana currently has no AOC or operating license. However, this is necessary in order to be able to sell flight tickets on your own account. The plan is to operate 20 routes, primarily within Mexico.
