The Alameda County Superior Court has awarded four American Airlines flight attendants well over $XNUMX million in compensation. Cabin workers have filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, claiming toxic chemicals made them sick.
Affected uniform items manufactured by Twin Mill in 2016. About 400 flight attendants have filed a lawsuit against the company. Court documents show that expert reports showed that toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, toluene and other substances were present. These are said to have helped to minimize creasing.
The four flight attendants whose cases have now been heard spoke to the US media. One lady stated that she had been working for the carrier for 37 years and had never had any problems until this uniform change. According to the one carried out in 2016, she became ill while wearing uniform. The symptoms gradually subsided after she was put down.
American Airlines took the issue seriously. The carrier allowed those who reported feeling unwell to wear older models. A total of 400 cabin employees went to court on their own initiative. In this specific case, a report was also presented which showed that the chemicals had harmful effects on health.
As is customary in the United States of America, this trial was not conducted before a single judge, but rather by a jury. The jury awarded the four plaintiff flight attendants compensation amounting to well over $XNUMX million per person. The lawsuit was not directed against the employer American Airlines, but against the manufacturer of the uniform.
