Without prior notice, the Verdi union also called on security personnel at Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports to stop work. The employees are scheduled to strike on March 7, 2024 from 3:30 a.m. to midnight.

In contrast, industrial action was announced at Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main airports. The operators at both locations previously announced that no regular departures with local passengers could take place. In addition, there is the strike by Lufthansa ground staff, which was also organized by Verdi. Switching to the train is also difficult or impossible because the GDL has called on the train drivers to go on strike.

In Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf people are angry about the actions of the Verdi union because they did not announce the strike call at these two locations in advance. For example, Düsseldorf Airport explains that they are of the opinion that this happened intentionally. It would affect the passengers because the airlines and tour operators would have been completely taken by surprise and would have had no opportunity to organize alternatives.

There are many flight cancellations at both airports. Passengers are advised to contact their airline before traveling to the respective airport. Although attempts are being made to maintain security checks to a minimum in Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn, very long waiting times are to be expected. There is also no guarantee that they can be kept in operation continuously.
