Since January 1, 2024, the handling services division of Flughafen Wien AG has been under the management of Michael Zach. The manager has been employed at Austria's largest airport since 2006 and succeeds Franz Spitzer, who is moving into semi-retirement after around 30 years in this position.

Most recently, Zach served as managing director of City Airport Train, a joint venture between Austrian Federal Railways and Flughafen Wien AG. He also managed the business and general aviation division, which also includes the operation of the VIP terminal. In addition, Michael Zach has been responsible for sales, finance and cargo in the handling services area since 2018. With his many years of management experience in various management positions, he emerged as the ideal successor and now heads the largest division of Flughafen Wien AG with 1.400 employees.

“Since 2018, I have been able to help shape ground handling at Vienna Airport together with Franz Spitzer. “I am very pleased to now be able to take on overall responsibility for the airport’s handling services and to continue the successful collaboration with my colleagues here,” says Michael Zach, Head of Handling Services at Flughafen Wien AG.

He is taking over the role of Franz Spitzer, who has been working at Flughafen Wien AG since 1994 and in various management functions, including head of security and Vienna International Airport Security (VIAS) as well as head of ground handling at the airport in key areas has significantly developed and contributed to the airport's top international positioning and high handling quality. Not least thanks to its performance, Vienna Airport has developed into one of the most punctual and reliable hubs in Europe.

“Michael Zach has emerged as the ideal successor to head the handling services department - he will continue the airport's success. At the same time, we would like to thank Franz Spitzer for his dedication and commitment to our airport, which he played a key role in shaping for many years. We wish him all the best for his new phase of life,” said Vienna Airport board members Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner.
