Actually, in October there were initially positive impulses for the travel industry. But increasing numbers of infections, the first domestic bans on accommodation and new travel restrictions ensured that the booking situation in the holiday business continued to deteriorate overall.

The closing balance for the 2020 summer season is again three percentage points lower than in the previous month and ends with a loss in sales of 81 percent compared to the previous summer. In addition, the new winter season shows a cumulative drop in sales of 74 percent compared to the previous year compared to the current booking status - eight percentage points more than in the previous month. So the situation remains tense.

But there are also positive signals: “In November, the announcement of a vaccine alone led to a surge in new bookings for the summer season 2021 - they almost doubled for the summer holidays in July and August 2021,” said Alexandra Weigand from Travel Data + Analytics from Reisevor9.de cited.
