The Rostec subsidiary United Aircraft Corporation and the airline Aeroflot have sealed the bulk order for 339 commercial aircraft that has been more or less known for a few weeks.

Accordingly, the largest Russian airline will receive 210 Irkut MS-21, 89 Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 and 40 Tupolev Tu-214. The machines are scheduled for delivery between 2023 and 2030. The SSJ-100 is the special version originally developed for Iran, which is said to contain components manufactured exclusively in the Russian Federation.

Aeroflot will not buy the 339 aircraft, but will purchase them from state leasing companies. Both Rostec and state-owned banks have lessors specializing in aircraft. With the bulk order, Aeroflot wants to make short and medium-haul routes independent of Western aircraft.

According to reports, there are also considerations for the long haul. However, these are not yet ready for a decision. It is said that, for example, a modernized variant of the Ilyushin Il-96 could be produced. Other models from the Soviet era could also be built again in a renewed form. As a transition, Russia wants to reactivate some decommissioned units.
