An Air India Express crew member was arrested in Cochin on Wednesday after a flight from Bahrain. The flight attendant is accused of smuggling 1.487 grams of gold.
According to the official account, the man is said to have been on business on flight IX474. He carried the gold in his hand and tried to hide it by pulling the sleeve of his shirt over it. He passed the so-called green canal, intended for travelers who have nothing to declare. The flight attendant's fatality was that he apparently seemed suspicious and was "fished out" by a customs officer for inspection.
Parent airline Air India said: “A crew member on Air India Express Flight IX 474 was taken into custody following an incident involving smuggling. The person in question has been suspended with immediate effect. Air India Express will not tolerate such behavior and will take strict action against the individual, including termination of employment, upon receipt of the investigating authorities' report."
