The Franco-Dutch airline group Air France-KLM is negotiating a EUR 500 million investment with the Apollo Global Management fund. The status of what is known as “exclusive negotiations” is currently in place.
The funds will not go directly to Air France-KLM, but to a maintenance subsidiary. The intention is to use the money to reduce the level of debt to the French state. To put it simply: Similar to the German competitor Lufthansa, the state loans are now beginning to be rescheduled for alternative financing options.
Air France-KLM has received billions in state aid from the governments of the Netherlands and France in the wake of the corona pandemic. This was indirectly linked to certain environmental regulations. Paris in particular is trying to enforce a sharp reduction in the number of domestic flights. However, this applies to all providers, including those who have not received any state aid at all.
