A survey carried out by the car driver club ARBÖ showed that 80 percent of Austrians do not want to use the upcoming autumn break for a vacation. Only 20 percent of those surveyed stated that they want to travel. The ARBÖ locates - unsurprisingly - the corona pandemic as the cause of the reluctance.

Of those who travel, the majority (70,8 percent) spend their autumn vacation in Austria, which is all too understandable due to the corona measures regarding PCR tests, quarantine regulations abroad and the long waiting times at the borders. The preferred means of travel is the car - three quarters of the survey responded that they would drive away by car. Here, too, the corona crisis can be cited as the reason for this - the feeling of security is higher in one's own car than in a plane or train, for example. The two most common reasons why people do not travel during the autumn vacation are, on the one hand, the uncertainty due to the Covid-19 situation and, on the other hand, there is generally a lack of interest in an autumn vacation.

“A vacation abroad is currently hardly considered at all by the few willing to travel. The requests for a travel route package for trips abroad as part of the ARBÖ travel service fell in September and October to around 25 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, ”the experts from the ARBÖ information service know. At the moment, the ARBÖ recommends in all cases before starting a trip - whether at home or abroad: Obtain the latest travel information for the respective country or region from the ARBÖ information service or the websites of the responsible ministries.

As the ARBÖ survey shows, 70 percent of Austrians feel insecure when it comes to vacation and travel and therefore prefer to stay at home. Unfortunately, there is no improvement in sight when it comes to the upcoming winter season or ski tourism: only 22 percent are planning a winter holiday.
