Austrian Airlines actually wanted to shut down all DHC Dash 2021-8 turboprop aircraft by the end of March 400. But things turned out differently, because two units received a short-term "extension". On May 31, 2021, however, it should finally be over, a spokesman confirmed to Aviation Direct.
In the meantime, it has also been determined on which route the DHC Dash 8-400 will be used for the last time. A spokesman told Aviation Direct: "The last flight should take place on May 31 as OS 905/6 from Vienna to Innsbruck and back." The last two turboprops will then be shut down and prepared for handover to other operators.
With the phasing out of the last two DHC Dash 8-400 aircraft, a long era at Austrian Airlines ends, because the former subsidiary Tyrolean owes its rise to turboprop aircraft from de Havilland. Once upon a time, pretty much all of the previous versions were in operation.
