The airline Austrian Airlines is tightening the compulsory vaccination that was imposed on flight personnel. Now employees on the short and medium-haul routes are also affected. But it gets even harder: Anyone who does not submit a vaccination or recovery certificate by March 1, 2022 should no longer receive a salary.
Only a few weeks ago it became known that Austrian Airlines was demanding proof of vaccination from pilots and flight attendants who work on long-haul routes. Anyone who cannot or does not want to comply with this should be deployed elsewhere. Now this is also being introduced on the short and medium haul routes, but recovery certificates are also accepted. Employees who refuse to do so should no longer receive a salary in the future.
This means that the promise that long-haul flight attendants who do not want to be vaccinated can be transferred to short and medium-haul routes is no longer worth anything, because Austrian Airlines will also require proof of vaccination or recovery in this segment by March 1, 2022 . First of all, the Salzburger Nachrichten reported on it.
A spokeswoman for the AUA confirmed to the medium: "This means that all employees in the cockpit and cabin must either be vaccinated or recovered". Anyone who does not meet this requirement of the employer will no longer be assigned to flight service and should therefore no longer receive a salary.
It is currently unclear whether Austrian Airlines' plan to no longer pay unvaccinated wages can be reconciled with the current legal situation. The union has heard that the lawyers are currently investigating.
