A major merger is imminent in South America, as Avianca and Sky Airline are currently preparing a merger. Negotiations have been going on for a long time, but the project is now concrete. In many regions, the plan is to grow under the low-cost brand Sky in the future.
The first thing to do is to obtain the approval of the antitrust authorities, especially in Chile and Colombia. According to local media reports, it is currently planned that Sky Airline will become a subsidiary of Avianca. Holger Paulmann will then continue to be involved in this.
Preparations are currently in full swing. It is expected that these will be completed towards the end of the year or the beginning of 2022, so that the official approvals can be obtained and the merger of the two groups can then be initiated.
