Austrian Airlines is currently increasingly using the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft type in the direction of the United States of America. Today, Wednesday, there was a short-term aircraft change on the Newark course. The background is the 5G discussion in the USA.

The Boeing 777 machine type has not yet received a corresponding approval from the FAA in the United States. At the moment, the situation is a bit confused because, despite the demands of pilot associations and airlines, the 5G mobile networks have been put into operation. It is feared that these could disrupt air traffic.

Since developments are currently very dynamic, Austrian Airlines decided to switch aircraft from the B777 to the smaller B767 at short notice. The latter sample already has the necessary approval from the FAA.

On request, a spokeswoman for AUA told Aviation.Direct: “We are continuously monitoring the current situation in the USA and are able to carry out the flight plan accordingly by replacing aircraft. Safety is always the top priority for Austrian Airlines. That's why today we used a Boeing 777 instead of a Boeing 767 for the connection from Vienna to Newark/New York".
