Coming from London Heathrow, British Airways heralded the start of the winter season at Salzburg Airport on Friday. The incoming business with skiers and snowboarders is an important pillar for Austria's second largest airport. In the previous year it was almost completely canceled due to the corona pandemic.

“We can finally welcome the harbingers of the upcoming winter season 2021/2022 with British Airways in Salzburg. British Airways is kicking off the ski season that is so important for Salzburg with London Heathrow, ”says airport authorized representative Christopher Losmann. “After the complete failure of last year's winter season and the challenging last months, we are looking forward to many visitors from all over Europe. The flight registrations from our airline partners make us optimistic, although developments continue to depend very much on the pandemic and the associated restrictions ”.

The comeback of British Airways is considered to be a particularly important milestone at Salzburg Airport, because on December 21, 2020, a temporary landing ban was issued for passenger planes that took off in the United Kingdom. The route paused much longer, however, because the route lay fallow for 357 days.

In addition to British Airways (London Heathrow), Easyjet (London Gatwick) and Ryanair (London Stansted) also fly to the British capital. From January 2022, BA Cityflyer will also be offering London City Airport. The young Norwegian airline Flyr, which connects Salzburg with Oslo, is new to the site. The flight program in winter is rounded off with the flight connection to the Icelandic capital Reykjavík, which is offered by Icelancair and Play.

The Salzburg winter program does not only offer flights with heavy incoming traffic, but also classic holiday flights. For example, Eurowings offers the destinations Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Hurghada. The Germany destinations Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne / Bonn are also on offer. However, there have been some reductions in the last few days. Easyjet has now reactivated the Berlin route. With the Emirates sister company it goes to Dubai.

Lufthansa also connects Salzburg with Frankfurt up to three times a day. With Turkish Airlines, which flies to Istanbul several times a week, passengers can take advantage of numerous onward flight options. With Amsterdam, Salzburg Airport has the next major hub in its flight program. Transavia flies several times a week to the Dutch capital or to Rotterdam and Eindhoven.
