Emirates Airline passengers will now be able to select and pre-order their main meals up to 14 days before departure. The carrier wants to ensure that travelers get the food they want while avoiding food waste.
The new option is initially being tested on flights from Dubai to London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London Stansted in business class. In the future, the golf carrier has the prospect of expanding to other routes and transport classes. Up to 14 days before departure, guests can view the menu on their flight online at emirates.de or via the Emirates app and choose from a range of regionally inspired dishes made with local ingredients. The so-called special meals, which take into account dietary, religious or nutritional preferences, can also be pre-ordered. The order must be placed at least 24 hours in advance.
The pre-orders will be added to already existing AI-powered data to track customer preferences and cabin crew information, facilitating menu planning and optimal food loading of the planes. On board, the cabin crew uses a purpose-built app to see the meal choices and serve the guest the desired dish. The new offer is another service initiative for digital passenger comfort on the journey. In addition to check-in via website and app, the option of a digital boarding pass and management of the itinerary, passengers can access digital menus in advance, register for the Skywards frequent flyer program or create a personal playlist of films, series and music titles that can be accessed using the app synchronized with the personal screen.
