The Omikron-Corona variant also has an impact on the winter flight schedule 2021/22 of the Canadian Air Transat. About a third of all connections are deleted and taken off the market.

The carrier justifies the reduction in capacity primarily with Omikron and the current record number of new infections in Canada. This will have an extremely negative effect on the demand, so that adjustments in the flight plan should be necessary. For the time being, capacity has been withdrawn up to and including February 25, 2022, but emphasizes that if necessary, it could also be reduced for the time thereafter.

Air Transat recently announced that it would extend its long-standing codeshare agreement with competitor Westjet. Company boss Annick Guérard is pursuing an alliance strategy, about which further details are to be communicated in the next few weeks. The competitor originally wanted to take over Air Canada, but the deal fell through, among other things due to competition law concerns of the EU Commission.
