Poland's state carrier Lot intends to renew its regional fleet. At the moment this mainly consists of machines from the manufacturer Embraer. It is not certain that this will remain the case in the future, as negotiations are also underway with the Airbus Group.

Both aircraft manufacturers are vying for an order that is expected to consist of 84 units. The E2 series from Embraer and the A220 family from Airbus Canada are in the running. According to government information, the two manufacturers will soon be invited to submit offers. At the moment it is still completely unclear which of the two providers has the better cards.

What speaks for Embraer is that Lot already operates 43 units from this manufacturer. It is the E1 series, because the successor E2 is not yet in the fleet. It would also be very prestigious for Airbus to win the order for another reason, as Lot is considered a loyal Boeing customer. With the A220 you have a model that you consider to be more suitable than the aircraft of the Brazilian competitors.

At Lot, it's not just about things like that, but also about who can deliver faster. After all, the company wants to grow strongly by 2030 and at both Airbus and Embraer, certain delivery slots are difficult to access because they are already fully booked by other customers. However, there is also the possibility that Lot could make use of lessors. It is known in the industry that Lessors like to order “in stock” in order to be able to deliver to customers at short notice exactly when demand is high. But that has its price, because such contracts can, but do not have to, be quite expensive.
