Due to the spread of the omicron variant of the corona virus, Thailand has tightened the entry rules again, at least temporarily.

The quarantine-free “Test & Go” model, according to which fully vaccinated travelers only have to do a PCR test when entering the country and then wait one night in their hotel for the result, will be suspended for two weeks with immediate effect, according to the ORF. Travelers who have already registered for entry under the “Test & Go” model would be exempted from the new rules and should travel to Thailand as planned. However, new registrations are no longer accepted for the time being. Anyone who wants to come anyway has to be in quarantine for seven or ten days - depending on the country of origin and vaccination status. The situation is to be reassessed after the holidays on January 4th.

The sandbox model, which has been running since July on the largest island of Phuket, in which fully vaccinated travelers can take a quarantine-free vacation under certain conditions, should, however, continue.
