The "Green Pass" planned for possible travel facilitation took another hurdle on Thursday, because the MEPs of the European Parliament gave their consent to the matter being dealt with in an urgent procedure.

The EU Commission had previously urged it to be able to quickly create the legal basis. It is currently planned that the “Green Pass” will be introduced across Europe in June 2021. To what extent this will be binding for the member states is currently the subject of intensive negotiations.

Der "Green Pass " should document vaccinations, tests and recoveries. The aim is for the entry and quarantine regulations to fall. However, in the first discussions it was planned that the national states could still specify which documents the app had to be "loaded" with. This means that free travel will not be possible yet.

In terms of content, the European Parliament has not yet dealt with the “green passport”. So far it has only been decided that the legislative procedure should be carried out with urgency. The further schedule has to be communicated by the presidium. In Austria, the National Council dealt with the national implementation on Thursday. Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) is pushing for the digital ID to also be used for restricted access in the future.
