According to its own statements, the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is experiencing a collapse in demand on the Austrian market due to the current lockdown. Therefore, the offer is reduced again.

The decision is particularly hard for Graz and Düsseldorf airports, because the routes to Germany offered from these airports will be paused until at least January 10, 2022. From the other Austrian airports, the offer has been thinned out.

A spokesman for Eurowings told Airliners.de that the Austrian lockdown was causing renewed reluctance to travel. Therefore one is reducing the "capacities for flights to and from Austria".

The competitor Wizz Air has also thinned out numerous routes. Some routes are temporarily paused. On the part of Ryanair it is said that they are currently sticking to the flight schedule and that no cuts or cancellations are planned. Austrian Airlines also used the red pencil because, for example, there is the Klagenfurt route schon again in a "lockdown pause".
