The Iceland-based low-cost airline Play carried 101.053 passengers in the first six months of operation. Around 1.000 flights were carried out. The occupancy rate is given as 53,2 percent.

Play also explains in a broadcast that 48 percent of passengers come from Iceland. Everyone else would come from other states. From this, the carrier deduces that the fire would be well received in Europe. In 2022, the plan is to serve a total of 24 destinations in Europe and North America.

Most recently, in December 2021, Play had 17.749 passengers on board. The load factor fell from 58,3 percent in November 2021 to 53,2 percent. The aviation company attributes this primarily to the tightening of entry and quarantine regulations by various countries. However, they consider themselves to be well positioned and emphasize that they have sufficient financial reserves available.

“As we have concluded a very eventful first year of operation, we are very encouraged and full of energy for the coming year. The business environment for all airlines was challenging, but we were able to increase our market share and put PLAY in a very favorable market position to enjoy the coming market growth, especially as we expand into the transatlantic market in the spring. In the first six months we were active in a relatively small and defined market and to be able to win the trust of more than 100.000 people in a very challenging business environment is not a matter of course and a great achievement. We are very excited that our strategy of offering the most competitive prices on the market and pursuing a digital first marketing and sales strategy is working great as we have had good bookings as we enter the transatlantic market. We have already laid the foundation within PLAY for a really great team of people, a team that is very ambitious and professional and has a very strong will to succeed. 2021 was a year with many important milestones and victories for PLAY and I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in the PLAY team to master new challenges and continue our success story in the coming year, "said Birgir Jónsson, CEO of Play.
