At Frankfurt Airport, the runway center is closed for about two weeks. The asphalt layer will be renewed. At the same time, a new LED lighting system will be installed.

So far, halogen lamps are still in use on this runway. With the reopening, which is announced for October 4, 2021, the new LED lights should then go into operation. According to Fraport AG, the top layer of asphalt will also be milled off and replaced with a new one.

It is an area of around 82.000 square meters. Around four centimeters of the surface will be milled off and renewed. The other runways will remain in operation during the construction work, so that the effects on flight operations will be kept within very narrow limits.
