Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport, developed for low-cost airlines and charter airlines, is not due to open until 2025. It has been under construction since 2018 and is expected to have an annual capacity of 25 million passengers.

The specialty for Frankfurt am Main is: So far, Terminals 1 and 2 are connected with each other. Since the distances are quite long, there is a bus line and there is even a train on the roof. The new building will be located across the street, as it were, and will not have any structural connection, because it is primarily low-cost airlines and charter flights that are mainly used to transport point-to-point passengers.

Regardless of the effects of the corona pandemic, Fraport AG is sticking to the completion of the new check-in hall. So far, according to its own information, around four billion euros have been invested in the project. It was also planned that the first of a total of three piers should be used from 2021. The final completion is now announced for 2024. However, this could be delayed due to various circumstances.

The capacity of the existing terminals is more than sufficient due to the corona pandemic and at the moment it is not possible to foresee when they could reach their limits again. Therefore, the target is now the opening for summer 2025, reports the Portal echo. Commissioning will take place on the basis of actual requirements. It should also be pointed out that only Terminal 2020 has been used in Frankfurt am Main since April 1. The second check-in hall is closed. The company also explains that the reopening is currently not in sight, as there is currently no need for the capacity of Terminal 2 due to the low passenger volume.
