At Hamburg Airport, passengers need even stronger nerves on Friday, because the Verdi union called on real estate maintenance employees to go on a 24-hour warning strike.

This department is responsible, among other things, for the technology of baggage transport and the technical maintenance of the runways and the entire infrastructure. It is currently unclear to what extent the work stoppages will affect flight operations.

The Verdi union is demanding, among other things, 8,5 percent more wages for its members for a period of one year. So far, employers have offered a maximum of four percent for a two-year term.

In Hamburg, there are already longer waiting times due to a lack of staff. In the meantime, a significant backlog of luggage has also formed. On Friday, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, among others, go on summer vacation. Both federal states are located in the catchment area of Hamburg Airport.
