Germany wants to buy 35 Lockheed Martin F-35s

The Federal Republic of Germany intends to purchase up to 35 Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth jets. These are intended to replace the aging tornadoes. Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht (SPD) has already confirmed the plans.

Recently, this type of military machine caused a stir due to numerous technical problems. For example, two copies of the US armed forces had to Make a safety landing at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.

With regard to the new acquisition, the German member of the government explained, among other things, that the purchase of new fighter jets had been considered for some time. However, it is now also a direct reaction to the changed situation that has arisen as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The fact that the Lockheed Martin F-35 is already in use with NATO partners such as the USA should speak for itself.

Among other things, the opposition criticizes that the F-35 is also capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The Defense Minister did not provide any further details on the costs, but it can be assumed that the funds will come from the special budget of 100 billion euros announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Germany intends to spend at least two percent of gross domestic product on national defense in the future.
