In the future, the German Air Force's readiness to fly will operate entirely from Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. The location in Cologne/Bonn is to be merged with that in the capital “in the medium term”.

On request, a spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense confirmed a corresponding report by the Kölner Stadtanzeiger. Concentration on one location has been a goal for a long time, but the original intention was to leave some operational tasks in Cologne/Bonn. Now the plans have changed in that, in the medium term, everything is to be coordinated from BER.

At the moment, however, it is still completely unclear when the move from Cologne/Bonn to Berlin will take place. The necessary areas and the required infrastructure are not yet available at the capital's airport. Until this is the case, there will continue to be ferry flights from Cologne/Bonn to BER and back. In view of the climate debate, these repeatedly caused criticism from the camp of so-called climate protectionists.
