Corona cases on board are becoming an ever-increasing problem for cruise operators, which has repeatedly led to the cancellation or abandonment of trips. But disembarking those who have tested positive is not easy either, because many countries do not want to have cases imported in this way.
Most recently, for example, Mein Schiff 1, operated by Tui Cruises, was denied shore leave due to numerous corona cases. In concrete terms, this means that the cruise ship was allowed to enter the ports, but nobody was allowed to go ashore. The shipping company therefore decided to cancel the trip early and order Mein Schiff 1 back to Bremerhaven.
The shipping company Tui Cruises is now taking an unusual measure, because they no longer want to let people on board who have been in the cruise destinations immediately before. How exactly this is to be checked is not entirely clear. One is primarily dependent on honest information from the passengers.
The MSC shipping company disembarked around 60 travelers who had tested positive in the port of Palma de Mallorca. According to a report in the Mallorca Zeitung, the authorities are said to have greeted the ship with a "big train station" because the jetty was sealed off by the executive. Those who tested positive and contact persons are said to have been taken to the quarantine hotel Belver by ambulance.
Some shipping companies have already canceled trips completely and plan to only allow people on board from mid-February 2022 who can prove that they have had a booster vaccination against Covid-19.
