The flight attendants of the Maltese Lauda Europe are now being urged to put the sales focus on alcoholic beverages and the controversial Ryanair scratch cards. New "service announcements" have also been introduced. The company even wants to monitor compliance with the instructions with the help of mystery passengers.
This emerges from a cover letter available to Aviation.Direct, which the base supervisor responsible for Vienna sent to the flight attendants. In particular, it instructs that the sale of alcohol and the controversial Ryanair scratch cards must be "pushed". It is emblematic that, among other things, alcoholic beverages are to be offered more on Palma routes.
Extract from the internal instruction, which is available in English:
- "On MAD route, especially on late scheduled flights, focus on Alcohol Service.
- On PMI route focus on alcohol service on the flight to PMI.
- On all Italian routes (BRI - CIA - CTA - MXP - NAP) always push on scratchcards and dedicated services for fragrances (20 € / 30 € perfumes service)
- On Portuguese routes (FAO - LIS - OPO) focus on Fresh Food and Alcohol.
- On German routes (DTM - CGN) focus on alcohol and push on scratch cards.
- On BLL and NYO main focus on D-Cart, especially Fragrances and Alcohol.
- On STN and MLA flights focus on alcohol.
- On Greek routes focus on alcohol, scratch cards and perfumes.
- On TLL and VAR focus on Perfumes and Alcohol.
- On OTP push on Perfumes. "
The service processes for individual routes are listed in the document attached to the internal e-mail. According to the accompanying letter, these must be meticulously adhered to. The service processes for the Palma flights are shown here as an example. It is noteworthy that alcoholic beverages should be offered for sale before anything else:

Base supervisor wants to use mystery passengers as controllers
According to the internal e-mail sent by the base supervisor responsible for Vienna, new service processes and passenger announcements are now being introduced. The mistrust of the crews must be extremely high, because underlined and in red letters the manager points out that the new processes and announcement texts must be adhered to “at all times and without deviations”.
The immediately following paragraph in the Aviation Direct internal mail threatens the flight attendants with constant checks: "Please also note that from this week and throughout the season I will carry out spot checks during the briefings before and after the flight to ensure that the requirements to be met. In addition, from this week and throughout the season, mystery passengers will evaluate the performance of the crew on board our flights and forward this information to in-flight management "
The Maltese successor to Laudamotion does not fly under its own flight numbers, but exclusively on behalf of Ryanair. The machines are stationed in Vienna and Palma de Mallorca. New bases with two Airbus A320 each will be opened in Zagreb and Zadar shortly. The temporary employment agency Crewlink is currently trying to recruit former Düsseldorf flight attendants for Croatia.
