The Austrian federal government ordered, among other things, the closure of catering establishments. The extremely cryptically formulated and sometimes contradicting document provides for exceptions for the transport industry. Austrian Airlines will keep the lounge in the Schengen area of Vienna Airport open.

The legal department of Austrian Airlines analyzed the regulation comprehensively. Ultimately, the decision was made that the lounge can remain open. “Our lounge will remain open as before. The hygiene and distance rules as well as the MNS obligation in the lounge remain unchanged. The mouth and nose protection must always be worn in the lounge, even on the way to the buffet or in the sanitary areas. The MNS may only be removed while sitting at the tables, ”explained company spokeswoman Tanja Gruber to Aviation Direct.

Vienna Airport will also keep the self-operated lounge open, but will close the buffet. Instead, visitors are given a snack package when they leave the exclusive waiting area. Food and drinks may not be consumed in the catering establishments, only take-away is allowed. Drinking and eating can legally take place directly in front of the restaurant, for more details see this article.
