The Austrian regional airports want to bring a lawsuit against the Republic of Austria. It is about the payment of Covid 19 subsidies, which are disadvantaged compared to Vienna-Schwechat Airport.
It's a remarkably high sum, because Graz Airport alone is suing for 5,6 million euros, reports the "Kleine Zeitung". The background is that the provincial airports – in contrast to Vienna Airport – had no access to various federal funding opportunities. This was justified, among other things, by the fact that – with the exception of Klagenfurt – the regional airports would be owned by the public sector, i.e. states and cities.
According to the government, the respective shareholders, who belong to the public sector, should pay for the financial damage caused by the corona pandemic. The federal state airports were only granted access to short-time work. The situation at Vienna Airport is different: the federal state airports say that the country's largest airport would have had access to almost all corona aid. From this one deduces a disadvantage and is now suing the Republic. Graz Airport alone claims 5,6 million euros.
The Finanzprokuratur has not commented on the judicial procedure of the federal states. It is also not yet foreseeable when the individual lawsuits will be heard, because for legal reasons each airport has to go to court for itself. A merger into one procedure is not possible.
