The symbolic groundbreaking for the construction of a new airport took place in Bodø, Norway. At the same time, a new district is to be built. The corresponding contracts were signed beforehand in the town hall.
“This is a big day for the city of Bodø and for us at Avinor. Although the construction of the new airport has been approved by all parties, we have now officially marked this by signing the contracts and breaking ground,” said Abraham Foss, CEO of Avinor. “We at Avinor are highly motivated to work with our partners in Bodø Municipality and the Norwegian Armed Forces to build an airport that will become a hub for traffic to and from the region. We've seen a lot of enthusiasm in the city and among our employees."
The new Bodø Airport will be around 900 meters south of the current airport. The current airport will remain operational until the day when the new airport begins operations. The expansion must be approved by the European Supervisory Authority (ESA) under EEA state aid rules for projects of this type. There are no indications that this will not be granted. The capacity should be around 2,3 million passengers per year.
