On February 5, 2023, Azur Air Flight ZF3774 suffered a right engine failure during takeoff. The Boeing 767-300 with registration RA-73034 should have flown from Phuket to Moscow-Vnukovo.
The pilots of the Russian airline noticed the engine malfunction and immediately canceled the take-off. An eyewitness filmed the failure, which was accompanied by flames and smoke below the wing. Because the pilots had to brake hard, three tires were damaged.
Both the 12 crew members and the 309 passengers remained unharmed. All were able to disembark the Boeing 767-300 and were then taken back to the Phuket airport terminal. Since the RA-73034 was no longer airworthy for technical reasons, the travelers were accommodated in hotels.
Azur Air wants to have the damaged engine replaced on site. You also have to replace at least three tires. This is also to be done at Phuket Airport. The reason for the failure of the right engine is still completely unclear. At least it cannot be ruled out that this could have been due to a lack of access to spare parts or replacement drives at the end of the service life. However, precise statements can only be made once the Thai flight accident investigators have submitted a first interim report.
