Pristina Airport was used by around two million passengers in 2021. This means that the airport in Kosovo was 91 percent of the traffic volume it had in 2019, i.e. before the corona pandemic.
In particular, the flight connection from the DA-CH region to Pristina was very stable throughout the course of the corona pandemic - with the exception of Lockdown I. Demand has not collapsed on most routes despite tough entry and quarantine regulations. Some airlines have even entered the Pristina business for the first time. The background to the constant demand is that many people in Germany, Austria and Switzerland live with families and other relatives in Kosovo.
“Given the pandemic, it's a satisfactory number of passengers and flights that we weren't expecting. If there are no new virus-related restrictions and measures or new variants that would affect air traffic, we expect to handle around 2,5 million passengers next year, ”said Pristina's airport spokeswoman Valentina Gara in a statement.
Pristina Airport was able to recover from the corona pandemic much faster than other airports. Several airlines have added new offers and / or upgraded existing routes. The constantly high demand is also related to the reasons described above. According to its own information, Pristina was the airport in the former Yugoslavia that had the most flight movements both in 2020 and, most recently, in 2021.
