The City of Vienna expects that shortly before the summer holidays there will be a rush to the 19 passport offices located in the municipal district offices. Now they are making an appeal to the residents in order to ensure that a new passport should only be applied for if it is needed for a trip abroad.
Around 200.000 passports will expire in Vienna in 2021, which will pose a considerable challenge for the passport service points of the district offices. In order to get your passport relatively quickly, you shouldn't try to make an appointment at the last minute. The passport should only be renewed before the holiday period if this is absolutely necessary because of a trip abroad. For the expected onslaught, the district offices have now made numerous additional dates available for submitting applications. In June alone, a total of almost 25.000 appointments are offered.
Until further notice, the Vienna District Offices are offering an extended range of appointments, including extended opening times on Tuesdays - here the party traffic has been extended for the time being, analogous to the long Thursdays (8 am-17:30pm). In addition, the district offices open on two Saturdays in June exclusively for applications for passports, namely on June 12.06th. and on June 19.06th from 8 a.m. to 14 p.m. Each of these additional appointments outside the previous opening times is estimated in the online calendar as 20 minutes, so that even more appointments are available.
It is essential to note that a prior appointment (online, by telephone, etc.) is required for a passport renewal. In addition, an appointment for a passport renewal cannot be used for several people, but only for one application (one person). If you want to apply for several passports at the same time, you have to announce this under "Number of passport / ID card applications".
