The low-cost airline Ryanair is again reducing its presence at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. The flight schedule will be significantly reduced from mid-November 2020, so that only eleven destinations remain. These are approached at low frequencies. Competitor Wizzair is cutting the route network to three destinations zusammen.

Lauda Europe and Buzz will soon have less work to do for Ryanair, because from mid-November the offer from Vienna will be significantly thinned out again. Only Dortmund, Thessaloniki, London-Stansted, Milan-Malpensa, Rome-Fiumicino, Lisbon, Stockholm-Skavsta, Las Palmas, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife South and Athens remain. In the case of Thessaloniki, it should be noted that this route cannot currently be operated for official reasons. Greece ordered the closure of the airport there.

Ryanair justifies the deletions in a letter to affected passengers quite brazen and claims that the authorities would prohibit the operation of the flights. This is only correct in the case of Thessaloniki, but not in the present email, which relates to a flight to Borispil. “Dear customer, we regret to inform you that due to the ongoing changes and additions to travel restrictions by the governments, we have no alternative at very short notice and are forced to cancel your flight (s) FR976 from Kiev-Borispol to Vienna International on 21Nov20. We are doing everything in our power to minimize these government enforced cancellations. Your options are explained below. Please inform all other customers who may be traveling with you (...) ”can be read in the interview. The claim is quite bold on the part of Ryanair, because it suggests that the company would have been officially forced to make the deletions. However, this is not the truth.

The low-cost airline did not want to make a statement about the recent cuts in Vienna when asked by telephone. However, this is likely due to the currently extremely low demand across the industry.

    It's the usual business practice at Ryanair, wherever you can squeeze the lemon.
    Just like you do with Boeing, I'd have a hint on that.
    Reuters reported that pilots from Southwest, among others, did not go far enough with the improvements to the Max, and therefore the emergency checklist for loss of trim control is too complicated.
    Since Ryanair is expecting the first Max200 in spring and this plane needs separate approval, the schedule will probably not be able to be kept.

      I think I can remember having written on this subject before. I am aware of the problem with the 200 version because there is a “hardware problem”, to put it very simply. As far as I know, Ryanair is the only airline to this day that has opted for this variant and the fact that Ryanair is thinking about the Max-10 somehow shows me that maybe the Max-200 is not that good FR is. But also trust them to have a special variant of the Max-10. I keep my eye on the subject because it is definitely very exciting.
