The German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) has instructed the federal police that arriving passengers from Austria and the Czech Republic should be checked. This applies in particular to the flight connections from Vienna and Prague.

As a result of the order, Germany will receive incoming travelers in the non-Schengen areas of the airports on a vague legal basis. A passport control must then be completed by the federal police. In addition to the identity card or passport, a negative corona finding, which must not be older than 48 hours, as well as the QR code of the electronic travel registration must be submitted. Those who cannot do that risk being rejected.

The argument is that the behavior deviates massively from the agreement of the EU ambassadors with the fact that Seehofer does not want the corona mutation circulating in Tyrol to "spill over" to Bavaria. The “rerouting” of passengers in non-Schengen areas is not permitted due to the EU treaties. Seehofer would have to set up his own checkpoints in the Schengen arrival zones if he wanted to control it. However, this year in particular it has been shown that Germany likes to go it alone and disregard EU law. Another example of this was that Reading out the PNR database as well as the associated forwarding to health authorities. However, this may only be used to solve serious crimes. In this context, infringement proceedings were initiated against the Federal Republic of Germany.

Due to the forced checks of passengers from Austria and the Czech Republic instructed by Horst Seehofer, there will be queues in front of the passport controls at the airports. At some airports there is little space, so it is difficult to keep the minimum distances. Only recently did this take care of at BER for medial eddies.
