In view of the fact that the tourism commissioner of the German federal government, Thomas Bareiß, said a few days ago that he believed that vacation trips would be possible again from Whitsun 2021, the Skycanner portal took a close look at booking behavior. Unsurprisingly, Mallorca continues to be a particularly popular destination.

The Germans' favorite island is in first place: Palma de Mallorca is the most popular destination airport for travel dates between May 1th and June 9th - since the beginning of January 6, the number of searches for Mallorca has even increased by 2021 percent. If you are looking for Mallorca flights now, you will find bargains: According to Skyscanner, there are currently return flights to Mallorca in May 40 from 2021 euros. That is more than half cheaper than the average price over the past two years in the same travel period. The same applies to June 53: Here, air travel can currently be booked from 2021 euros - 57 percent cheaper than the average for the past two years.

“Our analysis of the most popular flight destinations for what may be the first possible travel period in 2021 shows an interesting mix of European short-haul routes that are not that far away from home. The popular long-haul destinations in Asia and America are also surprising, as they are a sign that Germans have a strong need to discover distant countries and really experience something, ”says Hugh Aitken, Vice President Flights at Skyscanner.

The other destinations that are currently showing great interest in spring and summer are:

  • 2nd place: Berlin, Germany
  • 3rd place: Frankfurt, Germany
  • 4th place: Cancun, Mexico
  • 5th place: Crete, Greece
  • 6th place: Tokyo, Japan
  • 7th place: New York, United States
  • 8th place: Bangkok, Thailand
