In the coming year, the Slovenian government wants to revise the existing subsidy program with which airlines are supported. In the future, the aim is to promote the inclusion of new routes in a targeted manner. Minister Matjaž Han has a particular focus on the reactivation of Skopje flights.

This route has been idle since the collapse of Adria Airways. Attempts were made to attract low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air and Easyjet for this route, but the negotiations were unsuccessful. This applies to both Ljubljana and Maribor. The new subsidy program, which is due to come into effect next year, stipulates that there should be higher subsidies for the inclusion of new routes that fit into the plans of the Ministry of Transport.

This opens the money tap for low-cost airlines through the back door. No exact details of the new funding program are known yet, as the government has only presented the key points so far. However, there are indications that new operators will be found for the destinations Bucharest, Copenhagen, Skopje, Helsinki, Berlin, Prague, Stockholm, Barcelona, Hamburg, Tirana and Sofia.
