Star Alliance member Air Canada has to reduce the flight schedule planned for July and August 2022 by around 15 percent. The background is that there is an acute shortage of staff and this also affects the supply chains.
Company boss Michael Rousseau said after consultations with the government that the airline he manages is currently struggling to maintain normal flight operations and the service customers have come to expect. Demand would have skyrocketed and, in combination with the lack of staff, would present the entire industry with major challenges. Pointing out that some US carriers have already cut their offers, Air Canada has no other option.
"In order to achieve the required level of operational stability, we are now reluctantly making significant cuts to our July and August schedule to reduce passenger volume and flow to levels that we believe the air transportation system can sustain," he said Air Canada boss.
